Gulfstream first used turbofan engines in 1967 with the aircraft remaining in production until 1980, when the Gulfstream III was the leading business jet. However, keen on improving noise level and fuel characteristics, the engineers at Gulfstream selected the Rolls-Royce turbofan for the GIV.
